Shiva Aarthi (शिव आर्थि)

Composer: Swami Shivananda (1854 – 1934) was born Tarak Nath Ghosal in the village of Barasat in West Bengal. He was a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, and became the second president of the Ramakrishna Mission. His devotees refer to him as Mahapurush Maharaj (Great Soul). Swami Shivananda and Swami Subodhananda were the only direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna to be filmed. He was a Brahmajnani (knower of Brahman or the Supreme Being).Swami Shivananda introduced the celebration of the birth anniversaries of his brother-monks. He was known to have laid the foundation stone of Shri Ramakrishna Temple at Belur Math, which was designed by Swami Vijnanananda. More...

1. ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा, प्रभु हर शिव ओंकार,
ब्रह्म विष्णु, सदा शिव, अर्धङ्गी धर, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार.
एकानन चतुरानन पञ्चानन राजेय
हन्सनन गरुरसन वृषवाहन साजेय

2. धो भुज चार चथुर्भुज् दस भुज थे सोहे,
थीनो रूप निरख्थ त्रिभुवन मन मोहे, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार

3. आक्ष माला, वन माला, मुन्दमाला धरी,
चन्दन मृग मध् सोहे, भाले शुभ कारी, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार

4. श्र्वेथाम्भर्, पीथभर, भगम्भर अङ्गे,
ब्रःमधिक सनकाधिक. प्रेथधिक संगे, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार

5. कर के बीच कमण्डल, चक्र, त्रिशूल दर्ह्ता,
जग कर्थ, जग हरथ, जग पालन कर्थ, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार

6. ब्रह्म विष्णु सदा शिव जानतः अविवेक,
प्रनवक्षर मध्य थेनों हि, येका, ॐ जय शिव ओंकार

7. त्रिगुण स्वमिजि की आर्थि जो कोइ जन्गावे,

2. The men with two hands and Gods with four hands worship you,
You take all the three forms and attract mind of the three worlds,
Om Victory to Lord Shiva, who is the meaning of Om

3. You wear the garland of beads, garland of forest flowers and garland of skulls,
You are worshipped by application of sandal paste and paste of musk,
You are the one who does great good to all,
Om Victory to Lord Shiva, who is the meaning of Om

4. You wear the white silk, the yellow silk and the hide of the lion,
You mingle with Sanaka and other sages, Brahma and also the corpses,,

5. Between your hands you wear the skull, the holy wheel and the trident,
You create the world, you destroy the world and you look after the world,

6. Understanding you separately, as Brahma, Vishnu or Sada Shiva is ignorance,
For in between Om and the three of them are one,

7. If some one sings this Aarthi of the God with three qualities,
Shivananda Swami tells that he would get all that he wishes in mind,
