విద్యలేనివాడు విద్యాధికుల చెంత
నుండినంత పండితుండుకాడు
కొలనిహంసలకడం గొక్కెర యున్నట్టు!
విశ్వదాభిరామ వినురవేమ.

తాత్పర్యం:
కొలనులో హంసల గుంపు మద్య ఒక కొంగ ఉన్నంత మాత్రాన అది హంసగా అగునా అన్నట్లు .చదువురానివాడుఒకడు గొప్ప విద్యలు కలిగిన పండితునిదగ్గర ఉన్నంత మాత్రాన అతడు గొప్పవాడుగా,పండితునిగా గుర్తింపబడదు.

numdinamtha pamdithumdukaadu
kolanihamsalakadam gokkera yunnattu!
Vishvadhaabhiraama vinuravema.

Meaning:
Just like a stork is a stork even if it mingles with a group of swans, a ignorant man doesn’t become knowledgeable just by being in the company of a wise man.
