      Dear Shri Hari Sharma

Though the reply is belated, as I saw your query only to-day, for the benefit of information I am furnishing the following details.

As per the great exponent of Sastras of yester years, H.H. Anantharama Dikshithar (attained Sidhi in 1969), there is no stigma are papa attached for performing upanayanam for third son, when already two sons remain bachelors. He further adds, due to mis-conception, even learned scholars committs this mistake. He further clarifies, as per Sastras no bar is there. Only if you do not do upanayana for third son in time, it is considered papa. Hope it is clear now. All the best.

For further clarifications, you can listen to his discourse on Bhagavatham (in tamil only). May not be available in market.
