Syama Sastri (ஸ்ரீ சியாமா சாஸ்திரிகள் / శ్యామ శాస్త్రి) (also commonly transliterated as Shyama Shastri) (1762-1827) is among the most renowned composers of Carnatic music; indeed, he was the oldest of the so-called Trinity of Carnatic music, along with Tyagaraja and Muttusvami Dikshitar. A major source for his biography is a chapter in P. Sambamoorthy’s book, Great Composers, 69-94. (Madras: The Indian Music Publishing House).
