What a terrible word did Krishna utter!

Is he disputing so much just because we are women?
Isn’t our honour (as important as) our life itself?

Charanams

[Krishna] What will happen by your whispering to each other, damsels?
We may be able to reach home only if we are alive.

[Gopis] O Krishna! Is it befitting for anyone
to speak craftily towards women?

[Krishna] This is not the time to be obstinate;
this is nothing but suicide.

[Gopis] Krishna! Is it possible for us to stand naked?
Will (making us do so) bring fame for You?

[Krishna] You will not allow me reach shore
quickly by listening to my words.

[Gopis – among themselves] Is this (situation) because of our sins,
or is this due to our fate?

[Krishna] Affection cannot be bought for a price;
therefore these girls shall not be trusted anymore.

[Gopis] O Prince! You should not think thus;
One praised by Tyagaraja! we have abundant love towards You.
