About The Temple :

2 kms from the immemorial Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple towards south west at Srivaraham, situates this very famous Goddess temple of Kerala. The main idol is calm minded Goddess and sub deities are Mahaganapathy, Nagar, Brahma Rakshas. Besides self grown ‘Puttu’ (leap of soil grown by white ants) facing towards north sits the Ashtaiswarya Moorthy and Devi (with eight prosperi ties ) idol made in Panjaloha (five metals Gold, silver, copper, lead and iron)

Legend – Kannaki (the lady from Tamilnadu who killed the King Pandya) in her ferocious stage after killing King Pandya went to Kodungalloor and settled there. While going to Kodungalloor she rested in many places and all those sacred places became famous and great temples were installed in these places on her way she took rest inMukkolackal also. While she was in Mukkolackal, her fer~city reduced. She became quiet and the idol is with calmness.

Main festival is ‘Uruttulsav’ attached with ‘Meena Bharani’ and also known as Meena Bharani utsav. Festival starts on ‘Thiruvonam’ star of month ‘Meenam’. Special poojas while singing the main parts of ‘Bhadrakali pattu’ (pattu-song) including ‘Qttam Nirthal’ (run halt) ‘Malappuram’ (functions of De vi’s wedding imagination) and ‘Palakanethottal’ (revival ofPalakan) etc are very important. 6th day on Revathy star Devi’s idol is taken on an elephant and Parackezhunellippu (procession for taking para (a measure) known as “Oom Pradakshinam” is celebrated. After receiving the offerings from the disciples Devi returns by noon to the temple. Temple and all the nearby places will be in a festivalmood and enjoys this function. Old people hence say that ‘Attukal Ponkala and Mukkokckal Parackt”lhuneIlathu”. Devi proceeding in a solemn way (Ezhunelluka) to their housea and disciples joyfully offer paddy full of para (Nelpara) to her. Usually in some temples paddy used in one para is repeatedly using in other houses also, but in this temple it is not used again.

Ooroottu Festival- Pongala, Thalapoly, Kuthiottam and Devi’s procession accompanied by various types of cultural activities and instrumental muries are highly devotional.

Aadi Chovva – Besides uruttutsav this temple celebrates ‘Aadi chovva’ festival also. There will be musical program conducted by famous musicians as their offerings.

Main offerings are ‘Kalabhabhishekam’ wearing in self grown ‘Puttu’ and ‘Swayamvararchana’ unmarried women are blessed and got married after doing this offering. A lot of people are attracted to this temple due to the power of Devi and systematic observances of daily functions.
