Bhartruhari was fiercely enamoured of his newly-wedded wife Pingala, a fact which caused Vikramaditya considerable anguish for the elder brother neglected his kingly duties preferring to spend his life in her arms. న కశ్చిచ్చణ్డ కోపానా |
మాత్మీయో నామ భూభుజామ్ ||
హోతారమపి జుహ్వానం, |
స్పృష్టో దహతి పావకః ||
తాత్పర్యం:
తనను తృప్తుని చేయాలని యజ్ఞకర్త, హోమగుండంలో నేతిని ధారాపాతంగా జారవిడచినప్పటికీ తనను తాకినప్పుడు ( తన జ్వాలలు సోకితే ) హోమం చెసేవాడ్ని సైతం అగ్ని నిర్మొహమాటంగా చుర్కుమనిపిస్తాడు. అలాగే తనకు ఎంతో హితకారిగా ఉంటూ మేలు చెసేవారిని సైతం రాజులు, ఏ కాస్త ఏమరుపాటుగా ఉన్నా దండించడానికి వెనకాడరు. దుర్జన ప్రభువులకు ఈ కారణం చేతనే మనసిచ్చి ప్రేమించేవాళ్ళు ఒక్కరూ ఉండరు.

Maathmeeyo Naama Bhoobhujaam ||
Hothaaramapi Juhvaanam, |
Sprushto Dhahathi Paavakah ||
Meaning:
A yagnakarta (a performer of yagna) satisfies the fire god with ghee offering. But when the ghee touches the fire, it blazes and can spark at the yagnakarta himself. Such is the nature of a wicked king. However much one helps him, he will hurt them on the right moment.
