Shirdi Sai temple has been built over his Samadhi (a state of consciousness induced by complete meditation) during year 1922. The idol of Baba is a marvelous statue carved over a single Italian marble by Late Balaji Vasant Talim in year 1954. The temple has an assembly hall for about 600 devotees. The first floor of the temple has the pictures depicting the life of the saint. The daily routine of the temple starts at 4 AM through 11 PM. Only on three occasions the temple is kept open overnight i.e. on Gurupoornima, Dassera, and Srirama Navmi. Every Thursday and on each festival, a Palakhi (chariot) with Baba’s photo is taken out to the streets of Shirdi as a festive ritual.
All temple activity at Shirdi revolves around the vast temple complex. Devotees enter the complex through one of four gates.
This is Gate №1 – which is an entry into the temple premises and for Mukh Darshan, i.e, darshan of Baba’s face from a distance – from the raised platform. After entering Gate №1, you may freely roam in the temple premises, take Udi (sacred ash, as in Vibhuti) see Abdul Baba’s Samadhi, Tatya’s samadhi, Nanavali’s samadhi, the Sai Baba Museum and walk to Dwarakamayi, but there is no entrance to Lendi Bagh or Baba’s Well.
On the north side of the temple, on Pimpalwadi Road, is Main Gate №2 which was earlier used as an entry and exit gate. At present is closed and not in use. Instead, just besides it on the Pimpalwadi Road itself is the entry gate for all devotees without any passes. This entry takes one directly into the first waiting hall from where the darshan queues, after moving along through spiraling long stretch of steel barricaded halls and via stairs, finally leads upto the Samadhi of Baba.
On the east side, in the lane going inside from Pimpalwadi Road is Gate №3 which is used mainly for exit out of the temple premises towards Mukh Darshan, the Hanuman temple and Baba’s Shri Chavadi. If one enters through this gate, on the left hand side comes the Mukh Darshan entry while on the right hand side is an entrance used for the senior citizens special entry during peak periods. This gate is also used as an entry for senior citizens, physically challenged persons and those who are unable to walk.
On the south side is Gate №4 which is primarily used for south exit off the temple premise. Left side of this exit leads to Dwarakamai while the right side of the exit leads to main road of the city. This gate is right opposite the samadhis of Nanavali, Abdul Baba and Tatya Patil..

Shiridi Sai Baba’s Samadhi Mandir is the place where his sacred body rests. Built with white marble stones and railings around it, all rituals such as Pooja, Abhishek , Aratis and naivedya are performed here Its beleived that the Samadhi Mandir was owned by famous Sai devotee Shreemant Gopalrao Butti and hence also known as ‘Butti Wada’. He wanted to keep an idol of Murlidhar there. However, according to the legends, Sai Baba manifested himself as Murlidhar and the temple became the Samadhi Mandir of Baba. His Holy idol of Shiridi Sai baba can be seen next to it.

Often his devotees would notice him stirring some hot concoction over the kitchen fire, not with a ladle but with his bare hands. There never was a time when his hand was scalded.
On yet another occasion, Sai Baba was partaking of food with three of his devotees in the masjid when, without any cause for provocation, he exclaimed- “Stop!” Then, as if nothing had happened, the four continued with their meal. Lunch over and the dishes cleared, they stepped out of the masjid, when large chunks of the ceiling fell on the very spot where they had been seated only a few minutes earlier. Did Sai Baba’s powers extend even to inanimate matter, the devotees wondered. Instances have been quoted by his devotees as to how Sai Baba commanded the rains to stop and the winds to cease.

Several Esteemed writers and Sai devotees (such as 1. Govindrao Raghunath Dabholkar, 2. Acharya Ekkirala Bharadwaja, 3. Smriti Srinivas, 4. Antonio Rigopolous) wrote his Biography which have been primary reference to the modern world. Its references also include the Diary then written by Sri Ganesh Shrikrishna Khaparde, a follower of Shri Sai baba describing every day of the author’s stay at Shirdi with Sai.
One such source is Sai’s life is the Shri Sai Satcharita, written by Govindrao Raghunath Dabholkar in Marathi in 1916. Its said that Govindrao Raghunath Dabholkar was nicknamed as ‘Hemadpant’ by Sri Saibaba). Consisting of 53 chapters, it describes Sai Baba’s life, teachings, and miracles. The book compares Sai Baba’s love to a mother’s love: caring and loving, but reprimanding when needed as well as describes Baba’s lifestyle, his selfless attitude, and his love for his devotees. The book describes how one should surrender one’s egoism at God’s feet and trust one’s guru. It explains how God is supreme and His devotees should trust Him and love Him. It teaches that God is omnipresent in all living things, so that everything on Earth must be treated with love and respect.
Sai Baba of Shirdi and His Teachings by Acharya Ekkirala Bharadwaja is an in-depth study of Sai Baba’s life routine and activities. Shortly after Sai Baba’s passing, devotee B.V. Narasimhaswamiji compiled accounts by eyewitnesses such as Sri Sai Baba’s Charters and Sayings and Devotee’s Experiences of Sai Baba.
