12 day Panguni Uthiram is grandly celebrated in the temple during March-April, when Lord Pataleeswara from Tirupathiriuliyur visits this temple with His consort Mother Perianayaki and will conduct the wedding of Lord Muruga with Valli and Deivanai and comes in procession. Surasamhara festival is celebrated for six days in Iypasi – October-November.
Temple’s Speciality:
There is a separate shrine in the temple called “Vel Kottam” where Vel the weapon of Lord Muruga is installed. Special Pujas are performed for the Vel on Sundays, Kruthika and Poosa star days. Those who worship the Vel regularly and continuously are relieved of prolonged and serious illness and derive all the benefits in life, is the staunch faith of the devotees.

Temple History:
Sage Tirunavukkarasar, one of the worshipful four Saivite saints was subjected to untold persecution by the Jains. Their chief and king Mahendravarma ordered that the saint be tied with a heavy stone and thrown into the Bay of Bengal. But Saint Tirunavukkarasar chanted the Panchakshara Mantra (pancha – five, Akshara-letters) Na ma shi va ya which made the hard stone into a floating cork wood that moved southwards. The saint reached the shores through Kedila river.
Lord Shiva with Mother Parvathi on the Vrushaba (the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva) and Lord Muruga on his peacock vehicle graced their darshan to saint Tirunavukkarasar on his reachingm the shores. Based on this event, a temple was erected for Lord Muruga here.
This event of the saint reaching the shores is celebrated annually on the Anusha Star day. Lord Pataleeswara and Perianayaki of Tirupathiripuliyur and Lord Muruga from Puduvandipalayam grace the darshan to the Saint and the devotees on this day. This place is also known as Karaieravitta Kuppam – Karai means shores, Kuppam the place.
