Thalanumdu Vishamu Phanikini (తలనుండు విషము ఫణీకిని)

Composer: Baddena Bhupaludu (AD 1220-1280). He was also known as Bhadra Bhupala. C.P. Brown. He was a Chola prince and was a Vassal under the Kakatiya empress Rani Rudrama Devi during the thirteenth century. He was a pupil of Tikkana, the greatest writer in Telugu. If we assume that the Sumatee Satakam was indeed written by Baddena, it would rank as one of the earliest Satakams in TeluguMore...

పద్యం:
తలనుండు విషము ఫణీకిని
వెలయంగాఁ దోకనుండు వృశ్చికమునకున్
దల దోఁక యనకనుండును
ఖలునకు నిలువెల్ల విషముగదరా సుమతీ.

తాత్పర్యం:
తలయందు పామునకు,తోకయందు తేలునకును,విషముంటుంది,కాని దుర్మార్గునికితల ,తోకయును నియమము లేక,శరీరమంతయు విషముండును.

Poem:
Thalanumdu vishamu phanikini
Velayamgaaao dhokanumdu vtrshchikamunakun
Dhala dhoaoka yanakanumdunu
Khalunaku niluvella vishamugadharaa sumathi.

Meaning:
A snake has poison in its head (in its tongue) and a scorpion in its tail. But an evil man has poison all over him (i.e for animals it is a protective instinct, but in man it is destructive)
