Thanakopame Thana Shathruvu (తనకోపమె తన శత్రువు)

Composer: Baddena Bhupaludu (AD 1220-1280). He was also known as Bhadra Bhupala. C.P. Brown. He was a Chola prince and was a Vassal under the Kakatiya empress Rani Rudrama Devi during the thirteenth century. He was a pupil of Tikkana, the greatest writer in Telugu. If we assume that the Sumatee Satakam was indeed written by Baddena, it would rank as one of the earliest Satakams in TeluguMore...

తనకోపమె తన శత్రువు
తన శాంతమె తనకు రక్ష,దయ చుట్టంబౌఁ
తన సంతోషమె స్వర్గము
తన శుఃఖమె నరకమండ్రు,తథ్యము సుమతీ.

తాత్పర్యం:
తనయొక్క కోపము శత్రువు వలె బాధయును.నెమ్మదితనము రక్షకునివలె రక్షణయును,కరుణ చుట్టమువలె ఆదరమును, సంతోషము స్వర్గమువలె సుఖమును,దుఃఖము నరకము వలె వేదనను కల్గించునని చెప్పుదురు.

Thana shaamthame thanaku raksha,dhaya chuttambauao

Thana shuhkhame narakamamdru,thathyamu sumathi.

Meaning:
One’s anger is their prime enemy, patience – one’s keeper, empathy is real relative in need, one’s happiness is real heaven and sorrow the hell.
