Velayaalu Seyu Baanalu (వెలయాలు సేయు బానలు)

Composer: Baddena Bhupaludu (AD 1220-1280). He was also known as Bhadra Bhupala. C.P. Brown. He was a Chola prince and was a Vassal under the Kakatiya empress Rani Rudrama Devi during the thirteenth century. He was a pupil of Tikkana, the greatest writer in Telugu. If we assume that the Sumatee Satakam was indeed written by Baddena, it would rank as one of the earliest Satakams in TeluguMore...

వెలయాలు సేయు బానలు
వెలయఁగ నగసాలి పొందు,వెలముల చెలిమిన్,
గలలోనఁ గన్న కలిమియు,
విలసితముగ నమ్మరాదు వినరా సుమతీ.

తాత్పర్యం:
వేశ్యా ప్రమాణములును,విశ్వ బ్రాహ్మణుని స్నేహమును,వెలమదొరల జతయు,కలలో చూచిన సంపదయు స్పష్టముగా నమ్మరాదు.

Velayaalu seyu baanalu
Velayaaoga nagasaali pomdhu,velamula chelimin,
Galalonaao ganna kalimiyu,
Vilasithamuga nammaraadhu vinaraa sumathi.

Meaning:
The values of a prostitute, the friendship of a Vishwa brahmin and company of a Velama chief and fortune dreamt cannot be trusted.

Vishwakarmas are a community or caste who have adopted engineering, art and architecture professions in India, and are followers of Lord Vishwakarma. They are found all over India. They comprise blacksmith, carpenter, metal craftsmen, stone-carver, and goldsmith. Being largely descended from Brahmins, Hindu law permits them to wear the sacred thread, perform various priestly duties and accords them a position equal to that of Brahmins. Velama is one of the older feudal castes or social groups in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. They ruled parts of Andhra, Tamilnadu and all of Telangana during 14th and 15th centuries.
