About The Temple :
One among 108 Durga temples situates in Cherthala of Alleppey district. Main deity is Karthiayani which is self originated. Shrine is 4 feet in deapth facing east. Five poojas and Seeveli daily. Puliannoor Madam do the Thantries. Flag staff is golden sub deities are Vishnu, Sivan, Kavudayan, Yakshi, Nagaraja, Ganapathy festival is Uthram Arattu hoisting flag on Makayiram of month Meenam. “Meenapooram” was very famous.
There was a tradition during this festival. People used to carry toddy pots and sung slang songs was one among them. Villwamangalam Swamiar saw seven divine virgins and six vanished one ran followed by Swamiyar. She jumped to six pounds Kalikulam, Pallikulam, Cherakulam, Pullamkulam, Kelankulam, thriplpurakulam, Karuppankulam and when she jumped into seventh pond withfull of mud Swamiar could catch hold of her hair. He forcefully made her sit by saying “Iri pulayadi” ( a slang in Malayalam). Remembering this slang songs are sung during the festival. During the festival there is fight between. Cocks made with wood. People offer cooks to this temple which fly every where in this temple area.
