Pallavi

నగు మోము కన లేని నా జాలి తెలిసి
నన్ను బ్రోవ రాదా శ్రీ రఘువర నీ (నగు)

Anupallavi

నగ రాజ ధర నీదు పరివారులెల్ల
ఒగి బోధన జేసే వారలు కారేయ్3అటులుండుదురే నీ (నగు)

Charanam

ఖగ రాజు నీయానతి విని వేగ చన లేడో
గగనానికిలకు బహు దూరంబనినాడో
జగమేలే పరమాత్మ ఎవరితో మొరలిడుదు
వగ జూపకు తాళను నన్నేలుకోరా త్యాగరాజ నుత నీ (నగు)

Variations

1బ్రోవ రాదా – బ్రోవగ రాదా
3అటులుండుదురే – అటులుండుదురా – ఇటులుండదురా. The word ‘అటులు’ (that way) or ‘ఇటులు’ (this way) does not make much difference. However, the word ‘ఉండుదురే’ meaning ‘they will be like this’ and ‘ఉండదురా’ meaning ‘it won’t be like this’ are diametrically opposite. In keeping with the previous phrase ‘ఒగి బోధన జేసే వారలు కారే’ which is interrogatory, the context demands a question ‘would they be like this?’ Therefore, ‘ఉండుదురే seem to be appropriate. అటులుండదురా’, (it won’t be like this) involves a change in the gender – from masculine plural to neuter singular. Therefore, it may not be appropriate.

Pallavi

O Sri Raghuvara! realising my plight of being unable to behold Your smiling face, can’t You protect me?

Anupallavi

O Lord who bore Mandara – king of mountains on His back! Aren’t all those in Your retinue the ones who render proper advice to You? would they remain (unconcerned) like that? O Sir Raghuvara! realising my plight of being unable to behold Your smiling face, can’t You protect me?

Charanam

Didn’t Garuda – King of birds – proceed fast or quickly hearing your command? or, did he (Garuda) say that it is much distance from Vaikuntha to the earth? O Supreme Lord who rules the universe! With whom else shall I complain? don’t cite pretexts; I can’t bear it; please govern me; O Lord praised by this Tyagaraja! O Sri Raghuvara! realising my plight of being unable to behold Your smiling face, can’t You protect me?

Enthralled by Banumathi singing,I began to find out the lyrics and ultimately landed in this ocean of Kritis by the great sage Thyagaraja. At my age of 81 years,I find a solace and peace of mind in reading Lyrics and renderings by many including that of Janaki Amma.
I appreciate the Blog post and their efforts fructified

I first heard this keertana in Bhanumati gari voice when I was a kid, in fact in a movie. Also my mother was a good singer of Bhanumati gari songs. This keertana I like the best.

Sorry to say that it’s a pity that you have discriminated ‘ MALAYALAM’, one of the four ‘members’ of the ‘Dravidian language family from showing lyrics.Instead of Hindi, the Malayalam could have been added as “Thyaagaraaja Krithis” are that much popular in Kerala.

‘ jaaDa’, means location in Telugu, must be more appropriate than the word ‘jaali’ ( compassion in Telugu) unless ‘jaaDa’ is a word of recent origin borrowed from other languages.
