Prayers

Devotees use to have a dip in Bhrugu Theertha and worship the Lord for release from sins. They pray to Mother seeking child boon and prosperity. They worship Mother Vaishnavi holding discus and conch offering garlands for removal of obstacles in wedding talks.

Thanks giving:

Realizing their wishes, devotees perform Tirumanjanam to Lord and Mother and offer archanas with Tulsi leaves.

Greatness Of Temple:

While Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi were passing on the sky in their Vrushab vahan, they saw Tirumazhisai Azhwar deep in yoga. Mother Parvathi suggested to Lord to drag Azhwar for a word play. Lord Shiva did so and the talks ended in a debate. Pleased with the debating skill of Azhwar, Lord Shiva honoured him with the title “Bhakti Sara”. Azhwar was secular in his outlook and sang hymns for both Saivism and Vaishnavism. Among the 12 Azhwars, Tirumazhisai Azhwar is fourth in the rank. He is said to have had his wisdom eye on his toe. There is a separate shrine for Azhwar.

Lord Vinayaka graces on the wall of the sanctum sanctorum with the two serpent planets Rahu and Ketu on His belly. Devotees pray here for relief from the adverse aspects of these planets. Special pujas are performed in the shrine on Vinayaka Chaturthi day.

Maharshis Brghu and Markandeya had the darshan of the Lord in this temple. They are in a worshipping form in the shrine. As the place of the temple is believed to have in it all the glory of Earth, it is named Magisaram. Those born in this sacred place and those who worship here will not have rebirth, according to belief.

Temple History:

Maharshis Athiri, Brughu and Bhargava approached Lord Brahmma to suggest a place where they would perform penance. Lord Brahmma called the divine sculptor (Mayan), gave him a scale. He placed Tirumazhisai on one plate and the rest of earth on the other. The plate of Tirumazhisai went down overweighing the other side of the scale. Realizing the glory of the place, the sages performed penance here. Lord Jagannatha granted them darshan in sitting form.
