The Madhava Swamy temple at Kollapur was originally built by the Rajas of Jetprole during the 16th century A.D. on the left bank of River Krishna, at Manchalakatta. The architecture of the temple is exceedingly beautiful.

The MadhavaSwamyTemple at Kollapur was originally built by the King Sri Surabhi Madhava Rayalu of Jetprole in the 16th Century A.D on the banks of River Krishna at ManchalakattaVillage.

The Architecture of this temple is extremely beautiful. The walls of this temple complex are having sculptures depicting the stories of Hindu mythology mainly of Lord Vishnu (Lord of Preservation).

All around the temple walls the beautifully carved sculptures depict the 24 aspects of Vishnu and the Dasa-Avatars of Vishnu. Various pillars supporting the Mandapa, the Garudalaya add beauty to the temple complex. Moreover the supporting pillars of this temple complex are the main beauty of the temple complex.

Due to the submergence under the waters of Srisailam Reservoir Project, it was shifted and transplanted in the year 1989 at Kollapur from ManchalakattaVillage. This temple is located 180 kms from Hyderabad and 110 kms from Kurnool & Mahabubnagar

2) National Importance

Very few pilgrims from Karnataka and Maharashtra visit this temple occasionally due to lack of awareness.

3) Location and Reach

Road: Visitors can reach the destination from Pebber (NH-7. The temple is located 50 km away from Pebber (NH-7).

Rail: The nearest railway station is located at Gadwal.

Air: The nearest Airport is located at Shamshabad (Hyderabad).

4) Jurisdiction of the Destination

The Temple is under the jurisdiction & control of Endowments Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh and the temple is maintaining by Kollapur Samsthan Raja.

5) Road Condition

120′ BT Road (NH-7) is available from Hyderabad to Pebber. The road condition is very good and newly laying 4 lines road, which is under process now. 12′ BT Road with average conditions is available from Pebber to Kollapur.

7) Visitors Flow at the

Destination

The flow of visitors to the destination has been increasing every year. As per the local people and officials of destinations, the visitors’ flow during the three years is as below:

It is found that 100 people per day on an average are visiting the temple and the number goes up to 200 persons on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. On all festival days (Ugadi, Dasara, Sankranthi, etc), the flow will be more than 500 tourists per day. During important occasions, viz., Brahmotsavalu, Kalyanotsavams, Rathotsavam, Sravana Masam, Karthika Masam, the tourists flow is very high and about 5,000 pilgrims on an average visit this destination. During summer and winter seasons, the tourists flow is very high as the school/college management declares holidays for students.

Justification for Tourist Flow

The logic behind the estimation of future visitors’ flow is that there is huge potential to attract the visitors. The rationale is as follows.

Ø During important occasions viz., Brahmotsavalu, Kalyanotsavam, Rathotsavam, Sravana and Karthika Masams, the tourists flow is very high

Ø The destination has historical importance. The sculpture is very good. The flow of tourists to this temple has been increasing now-a-days at high rate due to awareness about the temple in general public, temple sculpture at the destination

Ø The pilgrims who are residing villages/mandals located surrounding the destination have been performing pujas from ancestors/ hereditary
Ø The crowd in May, June and July is high due to holidays to the students.

Ø Increasing number of intra state-tourists from Karnataka & Maharashtra and other districts of AP

Ø The average growth of visitors flow is increasing on an average of 10% – 15%. Apart from this, if the Tourism Department provides infrastructure and promotional facilitates to the tourists, that can add another 30% – 40%.

It revealed from the field survey that the visitors prefer the following days in general.

* Mondays and Fridays – Tourist flow is more

* Festival Days – Ugadi, Dasara, Sivaratri, Sankranthi, whole month of Karthika & Sravana Masams, 1st January, etc – Tourist flow is high

* Marriages and tonsure ceremonies are mainly performed at the destination

* During Public Holidays – Increase the tourist flow to some extent

* Special occasions like family tours, marriages, educational tours, etc

10) Income Profile of Visitors

The approximate income profile of visitors to the destination is as below:

The residents, who are living in & around Kollapur and visit the temple belongs to lower & middle-income group.

11) Purpose of Visit

All the pilgrims visit the destination for devotional purpose only. They conduct Pujas and Vrathams at the temple.

The approximate percentage of tourists and places from where the tourists have been visiting the destination are as follows.

Ø 30% from Hyderabad and Kurnool District

13) Mode of Transport

Majority of the pilgrims visits through APSRTC buses, sharing autos and other mode of transport. The pilgrims, who resides at long distances comes by 4-wheelers (jeep, car, etc).

14) Frequency of Visits

· It found that 10% of the visitors are new persons and visited the destination first time after knowing the importance of the destination. Now-a-days, the new comers flow has been increasing to this destination abnormally. This was happening by telling/creating awareness to others by one, who visits the destination.

· About 90% of the pilgrims have been repeating the visit to the destination at least once in a year along with their friends and relatives and are generally residing in the villages/mandals surrounded to this destination.

15) Group Size

The visitors have been coming to the destination along with their family members, relatives and friends as a group. The group size consists of 4 to 10 persons in general and 10-15 pilgrims as a group visit the destination.

16) Accommodation Facilities

There are no accommodation-facilities exist at the destination. R&B Guest House is available. Pilgrims can stay at either Kollapur or Kurnool for lodging facilities.

17) Food & Beverages Facilities

There are many meals, tiffin hotels and tea bunks available. These tiffin hotels provide tiffin, tea/coffee, beverages, biscuits, etc to the visitors/tourists.

18) Illumination Facilities

Illumination facilities are available inside the temple. There are no proper illumination facilities either at outside and around the temple.

19) Sewerage and Public Toilets

There is no drainage facility available either inside or outside of the temple. No urinal blocks/public toilet facilities are available at the destination.

20) Water Facilities

There is no systematic drinking facility is available at the destination at present. The local Gram Panchayat is providing drinking water through tank at the destination.

21) Banking/ATM Facilities

SBI, SBH, Andhra Bank, Central Bank, DCC Bank, etc are available at Kollapur. SBH and Andhra Bank are providing ATM facility at Kollapur.

22) Emergency Health Facility

Primary Health Centre (PHC) run by Government is available at Kollapur. In addition, there are six private nursing homes, many medical & diagnostic centres, specialist doctors, etc are available at Kollapur.

23) Cleanness

The authority is maintaining cleanness inside the temple but they are not maintaining cleanness outside the temple and there is no tourism infrastructure available.

24) Landscaping and Park Maintenance

The temple authority is neither maintaining any landscaping nor park at the destination. There is a need to develop landscaping facilities for the tourists as it is located in the mandal headquarters. There are also no proper sitting facilities.

25) Safety/Security of Tourists

The priest and watchmen look after the issues of security of tourists. The destination is located in the mandal headquarter and there is no problem for security of tourists. Police Station is also available at this destination place. There are no thefts, threats or robbery occurred at the destination till today.

26) Guide Services

There is no guide available at the destination. The priest explains about the history and importance of the temple. They also guide the tourists.

27) Wayside Amenities

There are minor support services viz., air, petrol, puncture facilities, minor repairs, etc are available at Kollapur. All type of major services/amenities available at Kurnool.

28) Communication Facilities

It noticed that almost all mobile phones receive signals at the destination. Many PCOs with Coin operated boxes are available at the destination place and also in KollapurTown.

29) Marketing Facilities (Arches, Information Centre, Destination Boards, Direction Boards, etc)

The authority is publishing pamphlets on the occasion of Brahmotsav Festivals and distributes the same to the pilgrims. The authority has not established any destination and direction boards. No arches are available for the temple.

30) Shopping Facilities

Shopping facilities are available in Kollapur and puja items available at the destination.

31) Local Transport

Sharing autos, 7-seater autos, jeeps, private vehicles, etc are available from Pebber to Kollapur to reach the destination from surrounded villages/mandals.

32) Parking Facilities

Tourists are parking their vehicles in front of the temple as per their convenience and there is plenty of vacant land available for parking at the destination.

33) Other Facilities

The temple authority organise bajans during important festivals regularly.
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Singotam, Kollapur (M)

1) Importance of the Destination

Singotam (Singapattanam) is located about 9 Kms from Kollapur village and the famous deity here is Lakshminarasimha Swamy in the form of Shiva Linga. It’s a self emanated icon having Thripundrams and Urdhva Pundrams. After some time a shiva temple was construed at the right side of main temple and Ratna Lakshmi temple was constructed on the top of Ratnagiri hill. Thousands of pilgrims will congregate here on the eve of annual festival here and they come from neighbouring Karnataka state and also from Rajasthan.

It has 600 years of glorious history and one of the oldest temples in the district. A cow herder tilling the land with his ploughs at dawn and is looking after his cows in the nearest fields during the time of Singamanaidu of Surabhi clan who belong to 11th generation. At that time a small black stone in the form of Shiva Linga gave obstruction to the tilling of land with plough. The farmer has shifted that stone many times to the nearest place but the stone itself reached its original place again and again and the farmer doesn’t know anything to do. He is unable to realise the sanctity of that stone and days passed away.

Then the cow herder prayed for Lord Srimannrayana Swamy to do the needful. Lord appeared to the king in his dream and said that he is located in the fields of a farmer at the Northern side in the form of Linga and giving obstruction to the farmer everyday and ordered the king for the installation of the idol in a temple for regular pujas.

There is hill called Ratnagiri which is located about half km from Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple and goddess Ratna Lakshmi was installed on the top of the hill. Idol of the goddess was brought from Chennai in the year 1857 A.D about 150 years ago at the time of Queen Ratnamambha and was installed here. It’s a good picnic spot for the surrounding people and one can have a guest house of Kollapur kings in the beautiful surroundings of the hill.

Specialties of the temple:

Ø Sri Narasimha Swamy is worshipped in the form of Shiva Linga here and it is a form of Shiva and Vishnu Kshetra as the idol has Thripundras (Addanamas) and Urdhvapundras (Niluvunamas).

Ø Priests of this temple were appointed from Smartha Sri vatsa Gothrikas and also from Oruganti clan who are working till today.

Ø Ratna Lakshmi Amman temple is located about 1 Km from the main temple on the top of a hill.

Ø Pilgrims donate Pumpkins to the god to get rid of their problems.

Ø Jaggery pieces will be thrown in the nearest water body to get rid of their problems.

Ø Nrisimha Sagaram (Srivari Samudram) which is located left side of the temple will be filled with water once in 7 years.

Ø Deity will tell the pilgrims about their past and future.

Ø Pilgrims believe that the idol of the god is growing every year.

2) National Importance

The destination has national importance. Pilgrims/Tourists are visiting the destination from Karnataka (Raichur) and Maharashtra.

Road: Visitors can reach the destination either from Kollapur (9 km away) or Vanaparthy (35 km away) from the destination

Rail: The nearest railway station is located at Madanapuram, which is about 50 km away.

Air: The nearest Airport is at Shamshabad (Hyderabad).

7) Visitors Flow at the Destination

The flow of visitors to the destination has been increasing every year. As per the local people and officials of destinations, the visitors’ flow during the previous two years & current year is as below:

It found that 150 people per day on an average are visiting the temple and the number goes up to 300 persons on Sundays and Public Holidays. On every Saturday, the flow increases to 500 devotees per day and the tourist flow is very high on this day. On all festival days, the tourist flow is more than 1,000 tourists per day. The authority is performing marriages at high rate at the temple premises for the villagers, who are residing in and surrounding villagers/mandals. The authority also performs tonsure ceremonies at the temple. During summer and winter vacation holidays to schools & colleges, the tourist flow to the destination is very high. On every Wednesday, a local sandy for purchase of animals at Singotam has been organised and some thousands of people attend to this local sandy. Almost all the people, who attend this sandy visit the temple in general. The villagers sell some thousands of animals in this sandy.

During Sankranthi Festival, the temple authority organise ‘Theru’ and ‘Garudavahanam’ for a period of 10 days. The temple authority organises ‘Sankranthi Jathara’ for whole month from January 15th to February 15th every year. The tourists flow during these days is very high to the temple.

There are no shopping facilities at the temple premises except some shops selling puja items. During festival days especially Sankranthi Festival, mobile shops available at the destination to meet the demand. All type of shops available at Kollapur for shopping purpose.

31) Local Transport

About 30 vehicles/sharing autos are available from Kollapur to Singotam every day in addition to general transportation providing by APSRTC.

32) Parking Facilities

Visitors are parking their vehicles in front of the temple as per their convenience. Some place is available in front of the temple. The temple is located beside the approach road to SingotamVillage.

33) Other Facilities

The authority organises bajans during festival days and ‘Sankranthi Jathara’. This destination is famous for performing marriages at large scale at the temple premises.
