Each year a festival is celebrated in the temple during the first 10 days of Panguni (March-April).

As Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman Temple is known as ‘Sabarimala of women’ this temple is also exclusively for women. Men also are allowed.

General Information:

North of this temple is Thadagai Nachiamman temple in Sirumalai and a Lord Muruga temple is in Kallumalai on the south. The temple is situated in an environment of nature’s beauty.

Prayers:

Those affected by snake aspects, facing adverse aspects of planet Mars, threat to their Mangalsutras (Thali in Tamil) and Moola star aspects, pray to Mother Nagammal for relief. Devotees also come seeking child boon and remedy from prolonged incurable diseases.

Greatness Of Temple:

Of the 108 incarnations of Mother Parvathi, Nagammal is one to establish Dharma, according to scriptures.

Kathru, wife of Sage Kashyapa delivered Adisesha and other species of snakes. Vinatha delivered Garuda, the eagle vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Garuda and the snakes were always quarrelling. Unable to bear the onslaught of Garuda, the snakes asked him to accept them as ornaments and end the enmity between them. Garuda obliged. The snakes then went to the world below the earth called Pathala Loka.

From here, they became the bed for Lord Vishnu, ornament for Lord Shiva and umbrella for Mother Karumariamman.

The incarnation of Nagammal is said to represent the theory of Sage Patanjali that God could be worshipped in any form.

Temple History:

According to stories attached to this place, Sri Nagammal was in an anthill surrounded by fertile coconut trees which in due course took the form Sri Karumari Amman under a neem tree. This power was washed away in floods and became Nagammal and chose this place for landing finally. She also had with Her Karumari, Peria Nagammal and Rakkayee. This amalgamated form is known as Nagammal.
