క్షాన్తిక్చేత్కవచేన కిం కిమరిభిః క్రోధో స్తి చేద్దేహినాం
జ్ఞాతిశ్చేదనలేన కిం యది సుహృద్దివ్యౌషధైః కిం ఫలం |
కిం సర్పైర్యది దుర్జనాః కిము ధనైర్విద్యా నవద్యా యది
వ్రీడా చేత్కిము భూషణైస్సుకవితా యద్యస్తి రాజ్యేన కిమ్ || తాత్పర్యం:
ఇటువంటి విద్వజ్జనుల సాంగత్యం అంత తేలిగ్గా లభిస్తుందా ? దానికి ఓర్పు కావాలి. ఎందుకంటే….. పండితులైన వారికి సర్వం తెలుసు ! తాము స్నేహం చేయదగ్గ వ్యక్తులను, వారెంతో పరిశీలించి గాని దరిచేర్చుకోరు కదా ! కనుక ఓర్మి అనేదిక్కడ ముఖ్యం. అది ఉంటే వేరే కవచాలు అక్కర్లేదు. అదే గొప్ప రక్షా కవచం.
అలాక్కాకుండా క్రోధం అనేది పూనితే, శత్రుత్వం కలగడానికి క్షణం చాలు ! అసలు కోపమే పెద్ద శత్రువు కదా ! మైత్రి – శత్రుత్వాల సంగతి అలా ఉంచితే – జ్ఞాతులు ఎలాంటి వారో చెప్తున్నాడు కవి. అట్టివారున్నపుడు కనిపించకుండానే కాల్చేయ గలరు వారు. అంటే వేరే నిప్పు అక్కర్లేదని భావం. ఇక దుర్జనులు చెంత చేరితే వేరే సర్పాలు అక్కర్లేదు. మంచి మిత్రులే ఉంటే వారిని మించిన సిద్ధౌషధాలుండవు.

Patienceis the only means of gaining the friendship of a wise man. Unnecessary display of anger causes enimity. A wise man can burn down and destroy a person without the need ofa fire. The friendship of a vile man is as good as hundred poisonous snakes; and the association of a wise man is in itself a protective shield.
