Thuravoor Mahavishnu Temple is one of the biggest temples. west of NH 47. two deities, Mahasudarsana Moorthy and Narasimha Moorthy ( 2 flag staffs – Kodimaram ) famous for Daru Silpa. Pal Payasam and Muzhukkappu ( Covering with sandal paste ) are the main offerings. Poojas are conducted by Thulu Brahmins. Festivals are celebrated with the active participation of the local karayogams. Thulam Amavasi – Arattu.
Thuravoor Mahakshethram is one of South India’s most important temples dedicated to Lord Narasimhamoorthy. Installed close to Narasimhamoorthy, but in a separate Sreekovil, is the idol of Sree Mahasudarsanamoorthy. The temple complex is located at Thuravoor in Kerala, 25 Kilometres South of Kochi, by the side ofNH 47. Unique in its architectural and artistic grandeur, the temple is one of the most revered places of worship in Kerala. The two Sreekovils in a single yet spacious Nalambalam, the two golden Garudadwajas, the stringent and austere Vratas of the chief priest (who has to observe strict Brahmacharya and does not leave the temple premises during his tenure), the various festivals, the Vedic rituals and Purana discourses all through the year attract streams of devotees to the temple from within and outside the State.Both ‘Sree Narasimhamoorthy and Sree Sudarsanamoorthy’ – the main deities – are worshipped with equal reverence at the Thuravoor temple. It is the staunch belief that those who worship Narasimhamoorthy here will earn the blessings of the entire galaxy of gods. Goddess Mahalakshmi will also bless them with every happiness and wealth.
