Pallavi

Anupallavi
సరి లేని సీతతో సరయు మధ్యంబున నా (పరి)
Charanam
వరమగు బంగారు 1వాడను మెరయుచు 2పది పూటలపై
కరుణించెదననుచు 3క్రే-కనుల త్యాగరాజుని (పరి)
Variations
1వాడ – వోడ. The words ‘వాడ’ and ‘ఓడ’ have similar meaning – ‘a boat’. If ‘ఓడ’ has been used by Sri Thyagaraja, then when it is joined to ‘బంగారు’, it could become ‘వోడ’.
3క్రే-కనుల – క్రీ-కనులను. There is a difference between these two words – ‘క్రీ-కనుల’ means ‘down-cast glance’ or ‘dejection’; ‘క్రే-కనుల’, as per telugu dictionary, means ‘askance’ or ‘side-long glance’ or ‘suspiciously’. However, the Sanskrit, Telugu and Tamizh word ‘కటక్ష’ which also is ‘side-glance’ means ‘anugraha’, ‘karuna’, ‘kindness’, ‘favour’. Therefore, in the present context, considering the preceding word ‘కరుణించెద’, the appropriate word seems to be ‘క్రే-కనుల’ ie ‘కటాక్ష’ and not ‘క్రీ-కనుల’.
